This is the third and final microdoc from me, focusing on my family farm.  This one focuses on my Grandpa, who is living in the old farmhouse on the farm, which has been sold.

My Grandpa discusses the “happiest” memory on the farm, which goes from initially being a joke to a brief and reflective moment on his childhood, his family, and the farm.  In later clips, not featured in this microdoc, he asks if I’m “making money” with this film stuff, and that if I’m not a millionaire by the time I’m 45, to move onto something else.  (wow, now that’s a can of worms!)  I’ve finally begun to grasp my Grandpa’s thoughts on success, and although they differ from mine, I know that he grew up in a different time.  These are some of the things I hope to tackle in my thesis film, but most importantly, change, and how it affects us….my grandpa, the farm, the environment, me, and etc…

*Also, please excuse the poor video quality on youtube…hope to investigate that later.

farm family

This is the second of three microdocs revolving around my family farm.  I’ve entitled this microdoc as “farm family” as it focuses more on the family aspect of the farm, but through a single family party back in June 2008.
It was a fun experience filming my family.  They’re all very, very used to home videos, filming with family camcorders, but as soon as I introduced the HVX 200 into the mix, things were different.  Whether it was the camera size/model itself, or the known intent of my filming (to capture footage to possibly be used for a doc), the relationship with the camera changed and the HXV became more a stranger than a family friend.

The only person who really didn’t seem to let the camera affect them was my Grandpa.  Periodically he would ask me certain things about what I was filming, but generally his attention was elsewhere.  Perhaps this says a lot about the differences between his generation and mine, and being more aware of the camera’s gaze.

family farm

This is the first microdoc of three from me.  This one concentrates more on the farm exterior, although it does move inside. I shot some footage back in June of my family getting together for Father’s Day.  Every Father’s Day we all get together at the farm to do some late spring cleaning and celebrate the summer birthdays and whatnot.  The farm has been sold so I wanted to make sure I got some footage just in case the property developers got in there really soon.
